Skillnets

Skillnets networks offer free training to eligible  job-seekers in courses chosen and needed by industry. Job-seekers train with those in employment and other job-seekers. A number of Skillnets networks are also taking part in the Job-seekers Support Programme (JSSP). This initiative is aimed solely at unemployed people and includes free training in skills in demand by companies combined with direct access to employers through meaningful work placements.

Springboard

Springboard is a government initiative offering higher education places to jobseekers. In the next phase of Springboard for 2014 higher education places are now open to jobseekers who were self-employed and are claiming credits as well as jobseekers who can claim social welfare payments. There is no longer a qualifying eligibility time spent on the live register to apply for Springboard.

IMDA Springboard Course

If you are an unemployed engineer or technician interested in learning more about converting your qualifications to the pharmaceutical and medical devices sectors? Then the Certified Quality Engineer & Diploma in Management course might be right for you. This Springboard programme combines a 12 week training component with a 26 week work placement. MOMENTUM

MOMENTUM is a government supported initiative which will support the provision of free education and training projects to 6,500 jobseekers, allowing them to gain skills and to access work opportunities in identified growing sectors.

MOMENTUM projects are designed to create a dynamic environment where talented and motivated people work together to make a difference in their lives and careers.Eligible jobseekers will have access to a range of quality education and training projects, links to identified job vacancies and employers as well as work placement and support and relevant industry and NFQ (National Framework of Qualifications) Certification.

FIT Fast track to IT

FIT is an industry-led skills development initiative to develop and promote technology-based programmes and career development opportunities for jobseekers, particularly those most detached from the labour market and in danger of becoming long-term unemployed.

FIT is a charity established in 1999 and to date over 8,000 jobseekers have completed FIT skills development programmes of which over 5,000 have progressed into employment (that’s a 65% conversion rate). FIT offers a recruitment service to employers as well as a FIT internship programme and a FIT Job Assist programme to help jobseekers compete in the employment market with job search, CV and interview skills.

ICT Skills Programme

The ICT Skills Programme offers a number of Level 8 Conversion Programmes which will provide graduates from other skills areas with the opportunity to up-skill or re-skill through a 1 year full time HDip Conversion Programme in core computing/programming skills.The 17 programmes on offer will be for NFQ Level 8 jobseekers with cognate/numerical skills and underlying aptitude for programming and there will be 768 places offered countrywide. All courses are supported by the HEA and Department of Education and Skills which means the tuition fees normally associated with such programmes are waived.

Fusion

The InterTrade Ireland Fusion (Science, Engineering and Technology) and Acumen (Sales and Marketing) graduate programmes offer graduates a 12 month work role within an Irish company. There is an attractive salary package with these roles and the opportunity to gain a fully-funded postgraduate diploma from a leading Irish business school. To date 72% of those who have completed the Fusion programme have gone onto full employment in that company.

BENEFIT 3

Through the BenefIT 3 Scheme the Department of Communications, Energy & Natural Resources is offering a limited number of grants to community, voluntary and not for profit organisations for provision of specific digital skills training. For this initiative “qualifying persons” are people who have not previously engaged with the knowledge society through computer or through internet use. Specifically, those who have not previously used, or, have not in the past 12 months used computers, or those who have not previously used, or, have not in the past/previous 12 months used the internet.

Ireland as an experience for FDI’s

Ireland was named “Best Country for Business” by Forbes, December 2013 and a survey commissioned by AIB, found 97 % of FDI businesses would recommend Ireland as a country to locate in and 96 per cent of the companies that export report having a mainly positive experience.

More than 75% of survey respondents believe that the business environment in Ireland will improve in the next year and 86 per cent of companies stated that ‘access to Europe’ was important or critical in relation to their priorities for setting up shop here.
